And Now, Please Turn Over..

I was reading through the amazing Movie Moorlocks earlier and it was brought to my attention that the adorable Betty Garrett celebrated her 90th birthday last week!

I've happened across Betty numerous times during my deep foray into classic television first in Laverne & Shirley and then later as the Bunker's neighboor, Irene, in All in the Family but, I never realized what movies she had taken part in until today.

So, I give you Betty & the wacky Red Skelton in an uproarious scene from Neptune's Daughter (1949):

I hope you laugh as much as I did at this. My otherwise hum-drum, dreary day has been brightened considerably!

Picture Post: Vintage Vixens & Pretty Places.

Hi loves! I'm very busy as of late so, I'm sorry for the lack of interesting tidbits around these parts. I'm currently helping my best friend get through some tough times. However, I've been collecting some amazing imagery that has tickled my fancy & I wanted to share the beauty with you.
Enjoy.

Portrait of a Small Town.

Portrait of a Small Town is a photo essay by Everett W. Kuntz focusing on life in his hometown of Ridgeway, Iowa between the years of 1939-1942.
I love how you can catch little glimpses into how everyday life unraveled decades ago by not only focusing in on the subject of the photo but also taking time to glance the background:

"Ground beef .15 a lb.", " "Columbia Catfish .13 a lb."

Aren't these two adorable? I wonder if they were sisters or best friends?
Perhaps they were both.

The rest can be found here.

Thanks to For Me, For You for sharing this first.

John Rawlings Photography.

These are divine:

Mr. Rawlings is the author of many of my favorite photographic images of this era.
Alongside the likes of Cecil Beaton.

Who is your favorite photographer? What is their subjext area? What is it about their work that draws you to them?

Mascara is rather creepy..

Here's an ode to the advantages that a little makeup can offer, done in great 40s musical style with Betty Grable and June Haver:

Vintage Vogue!

If I'm not mistaken, the first one is from August, 1952:

Second from November, 194?:

I love them not only for the impeccable clothing but, the fonts alone, especially on the first one, are terribly charming, don't you think?

Picture Post:Lucille Ball.

In continuation of my week-long celebration of Lucy-Desi Days, 2008; I thought I'd post just a few of my favorite photographs of my favorite redhead.

Feast your eyes on these:

Photobucket
Weren't they a gorgeous couple?
These are circa mid-forties.

At the 1954 EMMY Awards.

Photobucket
Lucy and Vivian Vance remained close until Viv passed away due to cancer in 1979.

Photobucket
It isn't generally known but, Lucy was among the many young starlets who tested for the coveted role of Scarlett O'Hara in the now classic epic Gone With the Wind.

Photobucket
Lucy, in her role as Mame for the 1975 movie version of the Broadway musical that originally cast Angela Lansbury in the lead, portraying Mame Dennis.

Photobucket
I'm not sure of the story that may be tagged to this photograph but, it's a personal favorite of mine!

Out on the town, circa mid-60s.

That's all I've got, for the time being.
