Long Live the Queen!

This has touched my heart and made me cry:

Frank Turner had a friend named Lexie who recently passed away due to breast cancer. To help himself cope with his grief and to honor his friend, he wrote and performed this rather upbeat song to celebrate her life. Her children also appear in this video.

What have you done to cope with the loss of loved ones and how do you personally view death? Is it an ending, completion or is it just a new chapter, a different state of being?

The Vanities Girls.

Vanity Fair recently put together a portfolio showcasing all of the most recent young actresses who are "on the cusp of fame or have just hit it big; they have names you need to know and faces you won’t have trouble remembering. " and have been featured in their Vanities opener. Each one is shot in the style of a 1950's pinup shoot so oviously, I love almost all of them.

My favorites are:

Carla Gugino:

Alice Eve:

Emily Blunt:

You can view 24 others here along with thier photos of course, are their stats and what work they are currently involved in.

Kisses to Gala for pointing this out.

Dorothy's Ruby Slippers, Revisited.

This year, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, Warner Brothers and Swarovski Crystal have teamed up with some of the most popular fashion designers of today and asked them to create an interpertation of the iconic heel tappers that is all their own.

I adore these, by Oscar De La Renta:

If you are interested, here are the rest.

I absolutely love this film because it brings back so many childhood memories. It was a big occassion for my mother, sister, little brother and I when it would make its yearly Christmas television appearance.
Here's a secret, to this day, the Wicked Witch of the West freaks me the heck out and I make someone else watch this with me for that reason.. I'm 21, yes.
SHUT. UP.

Of course, almost everyone has fond memories that are attatched to this classic. Is there anyone out there that actually does not care for this movie at all?
One of my best friends, who is blogless, cannot stand it and finds it frightening? WTF? My brother-in-law used to say it was too "devilish". I've always found that to be a thing of uproarious hilarity. So anyway, come on, do you NOT LIKE The Wizard of Oz? You can tell me, to each his own.

Portrait of a Small Town.

Portrait of a Small Town is a photo essay by Everett W. Kuntz focusing on life in his hometown of Ridgeway, Iowa between the years of 1939-1942.
I love how you can catch little glimpses into how everyday life unraveled decades ago by not only focusing in on the subject of the photo but also taking time to glance the background:

"Ground beef .15 a lb.", " "Columbia Catfish .13 a lb."

Aren't these two adorable? I wonder if they were sisters or best friends?
Perhaps they were both.

The rest can be found here.

Thanks to For Me, For You for sharing this first.
