What's in the Fridge?

I just spent a good half hour studying, really studying, each photo in this series of photos done by photographer Mark Minijvar of the insides of other people's refrigerators because, it satisfied the snooper inside me.

The photo above is my favorite because, if it weren't for certain individuals who share my abode, that is akin to what my fridge would resemble. Sadly, this is more like its current state.

I Love Lucy- The Not-So-Overplayed Best;1.

As everyone who has visited here even only a time or two know, Lucille Ball is my FAVORITE actress & comedienne.

I've decided to periodically post my favorite Lucy moments however, I'll be highlighting the ones that are almost always overlooked. That means, if you're expecting Lucy's infamous foray into candy making or that strategically placed wick-in-putty nose, you are looking in the wrong place but, I promise they'll make you smile.

Bratislava Hot Serenaders

These are The Bratislava Hot Serenaders . As what one would consider a modern Jazz Band, they aim to recreate 20s and 30s popular music verbatim with no modern day rearrangements in the music and the same can be said for their vocalists.

The Pros & Cons of Online Retail Therapy.

I have a confession to make. I spend money frivolously on clothing any chance I get which granted, is not very often. At least I pay my bills first and foremost though which makes it not half as bad, right? Sometimes I feel guilty though but, I know I shouldn't. I mean, I also give to others as much as possible so, you couldn't really call me selfish. I decided this list would get posted so as to remind me of the good and bad points of something that, if left unchecked, could be a very big vice.

PROS:

1. It gives one something to look forward to in an otherwise mundane, routine exsistence.
2. In turn, it brightens one's mood.
3. It assists in building one's good credit.
4. It makes for a wardrobe that is nearly entirely unique and often unexpected.
5. Which, in turn, makes for great conversation starters. (Lord knows, I can use all the help I can get in that respect.)
6. A gal can get, in most cases, exactly what she's been coveting as opposed to settling for something 'close to it.'

CONS:

1. Its hard to judge what size will be appropriate. This goes mostly for shoes because with shirts, pants, dresses, you can go by your measurements.
2. In that same vein, when an item arrives and its not the right fit, its a hassle to box it back up, ship it back out, and await the proper size's arrival.
3. With the web right at one's fingertips, its a frequent battle of resisting temptation.
4. That credit card bill that arrives promptly at the beginning of each month. (If we could eliminate this one small detail, I could handle all the other piddly cons on this list.)

Hmmm, seems to me that the pros outweigh the cons, eh?
Well, that makes me feel better, I must say & much less guilt ridden.

All About The Beatles.

I adore these guys:

THE BEATLES
That's right, I love 'em.

Since birth, the greatness that was this 1960s mega group has been ingrained into my being. My father was an avid fan and as a small child, I was all about blasting some Penny Lane on my family's old record player.

So, I've been thinking, IF you enjoy these four mop topped boys from Liverpool the way I do, I have a question or two.

Ready? Okay!

1.) If you can, (and I know its hard, admittedly, I can't pick just one myself), what Beatles song really set your feets to tappin' with the most vigor and enthusiasm?
I flip flop on this issue every few months or so. A few months ago, I was very much about the Psychedelic Era Beatles, a la Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band, For the Benefit of Mr. Kite, and When I'm 64. Now, this month, I can't get enough of their later, more guitar infused, rocking songs like Revolution, Why Don't We Do It in the Road, and Let it Be.

2.) In a similar vein, what ERA of The Beatles do you prefer?
I've always had a taste for their later endeavors as opposed to their early 60s poppy sound. When I think about it, I guess I am definitely a late 60s kind of gal. The longer hair, the slight beard? SO much more attractive then their closely cropped couiffures and their smooth as a baby's bottom faces in my mind.

3.) Favorite Beatles moment or memory?
I think its hilarious how John Lennon stated that The Beatles were "bigger than Jesus Christ." and every Alma, Mildred, and Rose in America proceeded to ban such 'filth' from their child's record player. I don't know why I love that moment so much so, don't ask why. I'm just badass in that general fashion.

4.) What Beatles records do you have in your possession?
Nowadays I get most of my music transferred to the almighty IPod but, I have my share of Beatles CDs including; Beatles, 1; Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, and Beatles: Anthology.

And, last but certainly not least by any means;

5.) Who is YOUR favorite member of The Fab Four?

Testimony of Irene Wallner.

My favorite segment of one of my top 10 movies of all time, Judgment at Nuremberg and also, perhaps, Judy Garland's best performance, in my opinion.
She evokes pure, raw emotion. I truly love this short, powerful performance to be one of her very best.

Getting to Know Me, Getting to Know all about Meee..

Haha. What movie is THAT from, kids?

Anyway, Ingrid posted these questions in her regular feature, Getting to Know You. So, I decided to do a short post for the sole purpose of participating and plus, its like a type of questionairre and I FREAKING LOVE THOSE.

1.birkenstocks or designer shoes- Designer shoes because, despite the fact that I can only afford birkenstocks, I find them hideously ugly and I would perfer to go shoeless.

outside or inside- This depends completely on what the weather is like.

hoping or planning- Planning because, one never gets anywhere hoping for things without planning a way in which to acheive what they are hoping for.

carrots or peas- Peas because, although I do like carrots, sometimes they leave that really nasty weird taste in my mouth..I can't explain that taste either but, its atrocious.

cheese or chocolate- Cheese because, I've never been a chocolate lover in the first place.

wristwatch or intuition- A wristwatch because, I like to be certain and I am not inclined to guess or go with my gut.

milk or juice- Plain, light SOYMILK because it is so good for you and doesn't have any of the animal hormones that cow's milk contains nor all the additives, sugars, colorings, and calories of a juice.
..Unless I get to have a Naked juice which is a different thing altogether.

creating or viewing- Viewing because, I'm not exactly the artistic type.

walking or running- Walking because, if you go at a brisk pace, you get just as much exercise as if you were running and it saves an awful lot of wear and tear on your knees and joints.

bouncing or rigid- I am partial to bouncy objects myself.

cozy or breezy- If its a light spring or summer breeze, I'll take that. They can often be cozy.

fancy or hearty- Mealwise? I like homemade, healthy food that leaves you satisfied so, hearty.

chuckle or guffaw- Both are swell.

whisper or announce- I like to whisper things myself.

lick or bite- Oh, a mixture of the two of course!

snuggle or grope- Same as above.

sing or listen- I do enjoy singing.

kiss or hug- Kisses are my preference.

wonder or discover- Its best to discover answers to things that we first wonder over.

anticipate or achieve- Believe ACHEIVE!

This year, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, Warner Brothers and Swarovski Crystal have teamed up with some of the most popular fashion designers of today and asked them to create an interpertation of the iconic heel tappers that is all their own.

I absolutely love this film because it brings back so many childhood memories. It was a big occassion for my mother, sister, little brother and I when it would make its yearly Christmas television appearance.
Here's a secret, to this day, the Wicked Witch of the West freaks me the heck out and I make someone else watch this with me for that reason.. I'm 21, yes.
SHUT. UP.

Of course, almost everyone has fond memories that are attatched to this classic. Is there anyone out there that actually does not care for this movie at all?
One of my best friends, who is blogless, cannot stand it and finds it frightening? WTF? My brother-in-law used to say it was too "devilish". I've always found that to be a thing of uproarious hilarity. So anyway, come on, do you NOT LIKE The Wizard of Oz? You can tell me, to each his own.

Pictures of MY wedding...

...except, its not exactly MY wedding..

Alison Conklin guest blogged over at Toujours Complexe over the weekend & she shared some of the most incredible wedding photos that I have ever laid eyes upon. \

The bride, Suzanne, had what I consider to be the ultimate sense of style; vintage with a bit of a modern twist. Check out the bright red lipstick (oh so 40s pinup), together with the thick eyeliner:

And, the otherwise understated makeup on her alabaster skin is absolutely gorgeous!

The bride told Alison, her photographer, that she first discovered her veil and then proceeded to design her entire look based on it:

So, besides contracting pneumonia..

my mother also caught bronchitis on our journey south.
Drat, the luck!

Aside from getting multiple diseases, it was determined during the course of our visit that it would be absolutely impossible for my older sister and I to cohabitate in the same home for any extended amount of time. There would end up being an inevitable feud most likely resulting in my being ejected from their home anyway. So, the whole moving to Georgia to further my education thing is off but, I do however, plan on relocating to the Peach state sometime in the future for permanent residence.

On the bright side, I came away with a lip piercing and two tattoos.

I'll post a photo of my purple fleur-de-lis as soon as I upload it.

The trip, as a whole, was a disappointment with my only seeing my best friend once, on the night that I got my lip done but despite that, I came away with a clearer sense of self and a lighter heart and I'm honestly not sure what has prompted this sudden clarity but, I'm really enjoying not being under pressure and constant worry at the moment.

So, are any of you hardcore body mods? Do you have one or two tattoos or piercings or does body modification not interest you at all?

The Sunday Salon: Krista & the Classics.

I have many quirks, as I'm certain all of us do but, one of those which I possess which irks me most is the fact that when it comes to classic literature, it takes me a very long time to finish reading books.

...and I mean a veryyyy long time. Word or page count does not matter, whether said piece of literature is 400 pages or 1,000; it takes me, and I'm sort of embarassed to admit it, sometimes a month and a half from the time I crack the first chapter until I come to the conclusion and heavy heartedly take leave of a group of characters.

Oh, and by the way, another thing I have is that I absolutely cannot begin another book until I'm through with my current selection. Yeah. I read maybe 6 books a year but, I'm always in the midst of one.

A perfect example? Take a look at the newest addition to my homepage, my book meter. 356 pages out of 606 pages of The Portrait of a Lady done. Not bad, you say? That's after reading a page here, a chapter there for oh.. I don't know, almost two whole months?

The thing is, I've been this way since I began delving into chapter books back in first grade. Wanna know how long I stayed with Heidi and her grandfather back in fourth grade? Six months.. SIX. FREAKING. MONTHS. So, obviously, it isn't that I secretly despise classic lit. On the contrary, I adore it. I guess, perhaps, I overanalyze the situations and topics brought up in these novels?

On the bright side, it proves I do, indeed, have great perserverance. I have never been able to justify just giving up on a story after a few chapters or halfway through. I mean, the author poured all they had, every aspect of his or her life was consumed by the creation of the piece of art which I hold in my hands for, months, years even and, I always feel that I owe it to that person to carry on, enjoy the ride for what it's worth, and only once I've finished do I have the right to judge whether or not I loved or loathed their tale. I've realized that 95% of the time, even if the book as a whole was not to my liking, I am able to pick out a few aspects that made me think or a character that I was drawn to.

I don't know, maybe the way to look at this drawback in my person is; slow and steady wins the race because, by concluding a great piece of the written word, I always feel like I've won. I've won more knowledge, I've been taught a lesson, I've been forced to see the world from a completely opposite point of view from my own and, though I may not agree, I've gained more understanding and respect for a certain group or individual and in that sense, I've won more than any kind of competition could have offered me.

Booking Through Thursday..on FRIDAY.

This week's question is:

Have your book-tastes changed over the years? More fiction? Less? Books that are darker and more serious? Lighter and more frivolous? Challenging? Easy? How-to books over novels? Mysteries over Romance?

I've always been open to almost everything in way of books [and just about every other art form too] except for Romance and I'm also not particularly drawn to fantasy, sans The Chronicles of Narnia and Wicked.
From a very young age, say third grade, I've particularly enjoyed auto/biographies immensely. I yearn to learn as much as I possibly can about any one individual, I read up for months rather obsessively, and once I've dug up everything available, short of their bra or underwear size, obsession begins to dwindle but, I always retain a love for and enough information on said individual to be in the running to becoming an official biographer.
So, in short, no, nothing has really changed at all.

So, what about you guys?
What kind of reading do YOU enjoy most and have your reading habits shifted or evolved in any way over the past years or months?

Coco Rocha.

Admittedly, I don't pay a lot of attention to the current fashion scene. I don't have a favorite model. I don't idolize these women; they all have a very similar, basic, model "look"... mostly one of voracious hunger..

BUT.

I am somehow drawn to the ethereal asthetic of one Coco Rocha .

I'm really very impressed with this shot for Vogue Korea.
I love the fact that makeup is not plastered onto her face like icing and they are allowing natural beauty to do most of the work for her that is, except for some sort of Photoshop I'm sure but, I digress.

I'll be keeping my eye on this gal.
